The opening of Toronto's Clearview Institute was marked with a charitable deed.People were urged to drop by on June 4 and bring in an old pair of glasses to be donated to SightFirst, an organization that sends spectacles to Third World countries.
Clearview Institute, at 1260 Lawrence Ave. E., is a facility where corrective eye surgery, retinal and glaucoma diagnostics and cosmetic enhancements are performed by a team of internationally renowned doctors using advanced, state-of-the-art equipment.
SightFirst was launched by Lions Club International in 1989 to combat preventable blindness. Throughout the year it collects used prescription and non-prescription eyeglasses, which are cleaned and classified by prescription. Trained volunteers distribute the glasses to those in need in developing countries.
